A dietitian is a healthcare professional who has graduated from the Faculty or School of Health Sciences - Department of Nutrition and Dietetics of any university operating in Turkey, with a bachelor's degree of at least 4 years, excluding the preparatory class, and the title of "Dietitian".

It is an undergraduate education program that provides the necessary knowledge and skills to help individuals and society develop healthy eating habits. In this department, students are trained in subjects such as the study of nutrition science at the molecular level, food chemistry, planning dietary therapy in sick individuals and preventive services in public health.

The main mission of Izmir University of Economics, Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Nutrition and Dietetics is to educate professionals who promote healthy living, provide nutrition science and dietetics services for society and individuals, aim for excellence in research and education, and provide our students with knowledge, skills and ethical values in the field of nutrition science and dietetics and enable them to contribute to improving public health.

Nutrition and Dietetics graduates can work as clinical dietitians in hospitals, health centers, sports clubs, schools, mass nutrition service providers and private health centers and can pursue an academic career. They can also take part in policy development in the field of public health, food industry and education projects.

The language of instruction in the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics is Turkish. Students who wish can continue the 1-year preparatory programme. In addition, academic English is integrated into the 4-year undergraduate education. 

University candidates who question the relationship between nutrients in the protection of physical and mental health and who are interested in scientific research, who are curious, passionate, who love to communicate with people and who want to touch public health positively can apply to this department.

Courses at the Faculty of Health Sciences are taught in Turkish. However, our students can study preparatory education if they wish. For students who cannot study preparatory education, we offer the opportunity to learn professional English, which we integrate into four years.

The World Health Organization states the importance of the correct application of nutrition in the prevention of chronic diseases and treatment programs. We aim to educate our students on personalized treatment approaches.

Our students in the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics can take part in research projects for the protection of lifelong health together with students in the departments of medicine, nursing, physiotherapy and rehabilitation, and gastronomy.
